Rules - Twilight Struggle
Twilight Struggle is a two-player board game that simulates the Cold War between the Soviet Union and the United States, from 1945 to 1989. Players take on the role of one of the two superpowers, engaging in a global struggle of intrigue, prestige, and occasional conflicts. The primary objective is to expand one's Influence worldwide, gaining control of key nations and strategic allies on the global map.
The heart of the game is a card-driven system. Each turn, players play event cards that represent real historical occurrences. Cards can be used in two main ways:
- For their Operations Points, which allow players to place influence on the map, attempt coups, or advance in the Space Race.
- To activate the historical event described on the card, whose effect can favor one of the two superpowers or both.
The challenge lies in balancing the use of cards for immediate operations or for events, knowing that the opposing faction's events can activate even when cards are used for Operations Points. The game proceeds for a number of turns covering the Cold War's timeline, with victory determined by global control at the end of the game or by achieving immediate victory conditions.
