Game Description

Immerse yourself in the gothic atmosphere of 1920s Scotland with Mysterium, a captivating cooperative game that will plunge you into an unprecedented paranormal investigation. The renowned astrologer Mr. MacDowell has sensed an otherworldly presence in his new home and has gathered the most eminent psychics for an extraordinary seance. You will only have seven hours to establish contact with the restless spirit of the house and decipher the clues provided to unveil an ancient mystery that has remained unsolved. Prepare to put your intuition and deductive skills to the test in this race against time.

In Mysterium, one player takes on the role of the ghost, while the others are the psychics. The ghost, unable to speak and suffering from amnesia, communicates exclusively through "visions," represented by splendidly illustrated cards with a strong evocative impact. The psychics must interpret these dreamlike images to help the spirit remember the details of its death: who was the culprit, where the crime occurred, and what weapon was used. Asymmetric communication and the interpretation of visions are at the heart of the game, requiring the psychics to collaborate closely to solve a murder and bring peace to the ghost.

To solve the crime, the ghost must first remember, with the help of the psychics, all the suspects present on the night of the murder. Cards depicting suspects, locations, and murder weapons are laid out on the table, and the ghost secretly assigns a unique combination to each psychic. Each "hour" of the game, the ghost gives the psychics one or more vision cards, replenishing its hand. The psychics must deduce which suspect corresponds to the visions received. A two-minute hourglass timer adds tension, as the psychics place their tokens to indicate their hypotheses and can express agreement or disagreement with others' choices, using clairvoyance tokens. At the end of the time limit, the ghost reveals the correctness of the hypotheses. Psychics who guess correctly proceed with deducing the location and then the weapon, advancing in the investigation. This intuitive deduction and strategic collaboration create an immersive and engaging atmosphere.

Mysterium is a gaming experience rich in charm and mystery, perfect for evenings with friends or family. Its high replayability and unique atmosphere create an unforgettable experience with every game. Enter the world of Mysterium and uncover the secrets of the past!

Rules - Mysterium

Mysterium is a cooperative deduction board game for 2-7 players, set in the 1920s in a haunted Scottish mansion. One player takes on the role of the Ghost, the amnesiac victim of a murder, while the others are mediums, called upon to hold a seance to help the Ghost remember. The common goal is to discover who the culprit is, where the crime took place, and what weapon was used, before the seven available "hours" (turns) run out.

The Ghost cannot speak, but communicates with the mediums through vision cards, dreamlike and abstract images. At the beginning of the game, the Ghost secretly assigns each medium a specific combination of suspect, location, and murder weapon to discover. Its task is to provide effective clues using the vision cards, choosing them from its hand to guide each medium towards their own solution.

Each game "hour," the Ghost distributes vision cards to each medium. Mediums must interpret these images to guess their secret clue (first the suspect, then the location, finally the weapon). They can also express agreement or disagreement with the choices of other mediums. After a limited time, the Ghost reveals the correctness of the deductions:

  • Mediums who guess correctly advance to the next element to discover.
  • Those who are wrong remain in the same category and will receive new vision cards in the next turn.
If all mediums manage to identify their specific clues within seven hours, the game proceeds to the final phase where the group must identify the true culprit of the crime from among the discovered combinations.
