Yokohama is a strategic board game for 2-4 players where participants take on the role of merchants in the Meiji era, seeking to establish themselves in the flourishing port city. The main objective is to accumulate the greatest number of Victory Points (VP) through careful resource management and effective commercial expansion. The game takes place on a modular board composed of various location tiles representing the different areas of Yokohama, where players will seek to establish their influence.
Each turn, players place their Assistants on adjacent tiles to move their President. The strength of the action depends on the number of Assistants and the President present on the destination tile. Main actions include:
- Collecting resources such as Copper, Silk, Seafood, and Tea, essential for trade.
- Building Shops or Trading Houses to expand one's influence on the map and gain bonuses.
- Acquiring Technology cards that offer special abilities or Victory Points at the end of the game.
- Completing Export Orders, delivering specific resources to gain Victory Points and money.
Players must carefully plan their movements to optimize actions and block opponents, striving to maximize the efficiency of their moves.
The game continues until certain end-game conditions are met, such as a player completing a certain number of orders or building a specific number of structures. At the end, Victory Points are calculated by summing those obtained from orders, technologies, buildings, the presence of Foreign Agents, and remaining money. The merchant with the highest score wins the game, demonstrating having best managed their growing trading empire.
