They will face not only hostile elements, but also far more lethal dangers lurking in the frost: from the Algox, yeti-like cousins attacking from the mountains, to the Lurkers emerging from the northern sea, and even mysterious machines roaming freely in the frozen wastes. Rules - Frosthaven
Frosthaven is a cooperative board game for 1-4 players, set in a northern outpost besieged by natural dangers and hostile creatures. Players take on the role of mercenaries with the goal of defending and making the settlement prosper. It's a long-running narrative campaign, with over 100 scenarios to tackle, that unfolds through a system of seasonal events and mysteries to solve.
The core of the game is tactical combat, which uses a card system to determine character actions and initiative. Each round, players choose two cards from their hand to perform a top action and a bottom action, carefully managing their hand to avoid exhaustion. Enemies are controlled by an artificial intelligence deck, making each encounter dynamic. The gameplay mode is structured into main phases:
- Preparation and resolution of combat scenarios.
- The outpost management phase, where mercenaries return to the village.
- Resolution of seasonal events that affect the campaign.
During the outpost phase, players can construct new buildings, each offering new progression options and unlocking new functionalities. Unlike other similar games, items are not simply purchased, but must be crafted through a crafting system that requires the collection and use of valuable resources. The success of the campaign will depend on both battle skills and the ability to develop the outpost.
