In Through the Ages (TTA), each player strives to build the best possible civilization through careful resource management. The game challenges you to wisely balance your choices, including:

• Discovering new advanced technologies
• Electing competent and influential leaders
• Building breathtaking wonders
• Maintaining a strong army

One of the primary mechanics is card drafting: technologies, wonders, and leaders enter play and become easier to acquire the longer they remain available, adding an element of strategy and timing. Weakness in any area can be mercilessly exploited by your opponents.

To advance technologically, you will need to balance science for discovery, food to sustain your population, and resources (ore) to construct necessary buildings. In parallel, it is crucial to develop your military strength. A weak army will make you vulnerable to attacks from other players, who, while unable to conquer territory, can steal resources, science, kill leaders, reduce population, or culture. It is extremely difficult to win by focusing solely on military power, but it is all too easy to lose due to a lack thereof. Final victory is awarded to the player whose nation has accumulated the most culture points at the end of the modern age, making long-term strategy fundamental for success.
