Bureau of Investigation: Investigations in Arkham & Elsewhere is a cooperative board game for 1-8 players, set in the 1920s United States. Participants take on the role of agents of the Bureau of Investigation, tasked with investigating mysterious paranormal cases inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft. The main objective is to solve a series of five new and strange investigations, unveiling the otherworldly threats lurking behind the veil of reality, exploring locations such as Boston, Arkham, and exotic lands.

The game is based on the renowned Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective system, while introducing new mechanics and plot twists. At the beginning of each case, players receive an introduction to the story. From there, gameplay revolves around consulting a case file and, presumably, a list of locations and characters (such as a directory or period newspapers). Players discuss and decide which leads to follow, choosing specific numbers in the file that will lead them to explore locations, interrogate witnesses, and search for crucial clues.

Each choice will reveal new information, possible further leads, or dead ends, requiring players to piece together the puzzle through logical deduction. The "new mechanics" and "plot twists" of the original system likely introduce elements of "action" or special agent abilities, adding depth and specific challenges to the Lovecraftian universe. At the end of the investigations, players must answer specific questions about the case, striving to solve it as efficiently as possible.
