Can you unmask the killer before it's too late?
At the beginning of each game, every participant is assigned a secret role including the Forensic Scientist, the Witness, the Investigator, the Murderer, and the Accomplice. While the Investigators desperately seek the truth, the Murderer and their Accomplice secretly work to mislead and confuse. The key to the mystery lies in the hands of the Forensic Scientist, who knows the solution but can only communicate clues through special scene tiles, without uttering a single word. This unique mechanic makes every game a true battle of intellect and observation.
The Investigators' success depends on their ability to correctly interpret the evidence provided by the Forensic Scientist and, at the same time, to filter out the false leads disseminated by the Murderer's team. Deception: Murder in Hong Kong is a captivating game of deduction and deception for 4-12 players, with games resolving in about 20 minutes. Participants take on secret roles within a murder investigation: most are investigators seeking the truth, but one of them is the Murderer, who attempts to mislead the investigation and escape justice. At the start of the game, roles are assigned randomly, also including an Accomplice, a Witness, and the crucial Forensic Scientist.
The Forensic Scientist, who cannot speak, knows the solution to the crime (the murder weapon and the key evidence) and must guide the investigators using only special scene tiles and markers. Investigators must interpret these visual clues to correctly identify the weapon and key evidence among the numerous options available at the crime scene. The Murderer, for their part, tries to muddy the waters and direct suspicion towards an innocent person, manipulating the interpretation of the provided clues.
The investigators' objective is to correctly identify both the murder weapon and the key evidence before time runs out, thus solving the crime and winning along with the Forensic Scientist. If the investigators fail in their endeavor or wrongly accuse an innocent person, the Murderer and their accomplice get away with it and win the game. The game is a true battle of wits, interpretation, and the ability to see through deception.
